About Me

New Zealand based Documentary Photographer

I have the mindset, principles and attitudes of an artist/craftsman. Working with my head, hands and heart.

I see myself as a social documentary / street photographer.

I love making images that occur in an uncertain environment. They have an energy that is often lacking in planned images. When I photograph, I remain open to the universe and to chance. A kind of “Photographic improvisation”.

I guess I document my own experience of the world, much like a photojournalist. You have to see and feel moments. You also have to love people, and have an empathy for your subject. This gives me a great feeling of responsibility when documenting with my camera.

My own personal view point and when I click the shutter, creates my style. Its not about postwork or any kind of aesthetic styling. “Form follows Function.” But I do like to use wide lenses and get close.

Two days a week, I use my photographic skills in the Eye Department, Dunedin Hospital. As an Ophthalmic Photographer “Eye photographer”. I use specialized cameras & scanners to photograph the human eye. I work in clinical setting under the supervision of ophthalmologists (medical eye doctors). They are an important profession dedicated to preventing blindness in people of all ages.

I’m raising & growing a family with my beautiful wife, right here in Dunedin, New Zealand. I’m also trained as a Graphic Designer.

With over 18 years experience in the graphic design industry and a Photography Degree from AUT in Auckland. I have worked for many leading design & branding companies in Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin & London.

But I really wish could go surfing everyday and I drink too much coffee.
