It’s day 38 and I need some different stimulation other than photography. I’m getting tired of looking at life thru a rectangle. Solidarity for Taiwan

Posted by Michael McQueen on April 2, 2014 in Blog | No Comments

I am moved and inspired by The Students of Taiwan. The world is watching! Hopefully this action in Taiwan will spark a flame in the hearts and minds of people all over the world. Encouraging them to take action against undemocratic governments. These recent events are really testing the flow of information and the free […]

TPPA?

Posted by Michael McQueen on March 29, 2014 in Blog | No Comments

The New Zealand government is negotiating an international agreement that could have a huge effect on the lives of ordinary kiwis. It’s called the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA), and it involves eleven Asian and Pacific-rim countries, including the United States. If it goes ahead, we risk damage to our innovative economy, our pristine environment, our […]

Buy film not mega pixels

Posted by Michael McQueen on February 28, 2014 in Blog, Street Photography | No Comments

This images sums up why I shoot film. The fact that I can get a really good rangefinder and glass for $60NZD. I started shooting with the Yashica Electro35 GTN around Xmas 2013 and I’m always amazed with the results. It’s a little big to carry as an everyday camera but well worth shooting at […]

Posted by Michael McQueen on July 29, 2013 in Blog | 2 Comments

Thousands have marched in New Zealand wide rallies against the GCSB spying bill with marches taking place in 11 cities. I was in Dunedin. Highlanders vs Brumbies

Posted by Michael McQueen on April 12, 2013 in Blog | No Comments

The Highlanders where thumped 19-30 by the Brumbies in Dunedin tonight. The Highlanders get a try just before halftime when Hosea Gear brilliantly surged through three defenders. The try was not allowed, he apparently – according to the TMO anyway – bounced it.

A waterfall in the Otira Gorge, Petrus van der Velden, 1891. I remember meeting this painting as a young boy at the Dunedin Art Gallery in the late 70’s and falling in love with the scale, texture, depth and gold frame.
