DISPATCHES: Feeding Time

DOC Ranger Carol feeding the Kākā at the Te Anau Bird Sanctuary.

The Kākā is one of New Zealand’s most beautiful native forest parrots. It’s generally heard before they are seen, usually making soft whistling & clucking noises. They have olive-brown feathers with brilliant flashes of orange and scarlet under their wings.

The chicks from the Te Anau Wildlife Centre will be released into Orokonui Eco-sanctuary, near Dunedin, once they are fully grown.

These images were shot on Fujifilm Superia X-TRA 400 using my Yashica Electro 35 GSN. The Yashica is a 35mm analog rangefinder camera made in Japan 1973 and it’s still going strong.
